社長である私も、社員を平等に扱おうなどとは考えていない。社長と会食ができるのはMVPを取ったチームやその年に最も活躍した部署など、社員の中でも限られている。優秀な社員は報酬を上げ、待遇を上げ、社長自ら目をかける。徹底して上位にいる人材を伸ばしていく仕組みなのは、それが会社の成長に不可欠だと考えるからだ。

同期の中で賃金に大きな格差がつき、待遇が大きく変わるとなれば、当然、そこに嫉妬が生まれてくる。嫉妬をバネにして頑張る人もいれば、「やってられない」と言って辞めてしまう人もいるかもしれない。しかし、大きな格差がつくことが日常の風景になってしまえば、実はそれほど問題は生じない。慣れてしまえば「こんなものかな」と思え、逆に「自分にもチャンスが訪れるかもしれない」と、前向きに捉えられるようになるものである。
